On 23rd February, around 10.00 am, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has paid a visit to witness the victims of the Old Dhaka fire incident. She commended the doctor for their support and instructed them to ensure proper treatment to the victims. She also enquired about the victim’s conditions from Dr. Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of DMCH’s Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit.

The PM talked to the victims and their relatives by herself and ensured them all financial support, medical expenses, and compensation for the victims. She stayed there for about an hour and left DMC at around 11.00 am. After that, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader also visited the spot of the conflagration.

The Transport and Bridges Minister said that There is a “standing directive” from the prime minister to remove all chemical establishments from Old Dhaka immediately. He added, “Process is going on. Initially, the risky and illegal chemical warehouses and establishments will be removed from Chawkbazar and nearby area. There will be no compromise,”

However, on 20 February, at around 10.30 am a devastating fire broke out from a 4 story building and soon spread out the nearby area. More than 70 people were burnt alive and lots were party burnt. The investigation authority blames the chaotic and illegal warehouse and chemical factories, situated on the ground floor of most of the building of this are.
