Renowned Bangladeshi singer Subir Nandi passed away at about 4.30 am in Singapore General Hospital today, 7 April. His daughter Falguni Nandi has confirmed about his death.

The body of the National Award winning singer will be taken to Bangladesh from Singapore tomorrow morning. From the airport his body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Miner, Dhaka, so that people can see him for the last time. His daughter said, “My father wanted everyone to bring him flowers. Please bring him flowers to the airport, and also when you come to see him for the last time”.

On 30 April, he was taken to Singapore for better treatment. Before that, he health condition was very critical. Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, who had been monitoring the singer’s treatment in coordination with the doctors in Singapore informed that Subir had suffered from multiple organ failure.

Earlier, from the information given by his daughter Falguni, it is known that four rings were implement in his heart. Before going to Singapore, he was admitted to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on April 14 after he fell ill while returning to Dhaka from Srimangal by a train from a family programme.

Subir Nandi won a lot of awards including Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer five times for his performance in the films Mahanayak (1984), Shuvoda (1986), Srabon Megher Din (1999), Megher Pore Megh (2004) and Mohua Sundori (2015). In 2019,he was awarded Ekushe Padak too.
