Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announces the “Traffic-Week” from Sunday in order to restore the traffic rules strictly on the road. The Commissioner of DMP Asaduzzaman Mian proclaims in a press briefing at DMP Media Center on Saturday afternoon.

The briefing was called on to discuss regarding the ongoing crisis and the relating issues of the movement of students for “Safe Roads”.

“This week, driving without a fitness vehicle or license, or any kind of law violating actions on the road will be strictly turned down by the law enforcement agencies,” said the Commissioner.

He also appreciates the purpose for which the students took the movement and claimed it to be a great initiative.

There are few communities who are constantly trying to turn this noble movement into their personal favor as the commissioner states that, “To give a political shape to this noble movement, a group is provoking the students’ activity. And this can’t be happened at any cost.”

Asaduzzaman further states that, “Students’ movement is creating severe problems and mismanagement for the general mass as they cannot reach their destiny due to the lack of public transports and this situation can not be allowed to continue.”

“Students have given us moral grounds in law enforcing; we stand on this foundation and have taken the initiative to strictly enforce the traffic rules,” added the Commissioner.

He further assured the students about imposing the traffic rules and safety on the road and humbly requests them to return to their classes.

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina agreed and appreciated all the demands of the students’ movement and assured to execute all the demands properly. Later on PM donated 20 lakhs taka to each family of the victims of road accident took place on July 29 near Kurmitola road where 2 students of Shahed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College died on the spot and few were injured seriously. Since then students from all over the country blocked the roads and began to seek justice.
