“Bangladesh has recently been declared as the developing country but it is based on the economical factor rather than on the social perspective,” said Selina Ahmed, Executive Director of Acid Survivor Foundation on Wednesday in a seminar entitled “Violence against Women and Sexual Harassment in Working Place: A Legal & Socio-economic Analysis” organized by the dept. of Law and Justice of Bangladesh University of Business & Technology (BUBT).

She further put focuses on the continuous harassment of women taking places in different working places around the country and urges an immediate change in the situation as soon as possible through raising awareness.

Pointing at the recent harassments on women Selina said, “The lacking of the execution of existing laws is responsible for the increasing number of harassment and crime.”

“We should rethink regarding the development of the morality and religious values among the youths in order to check the ongoing issue,” she expressed with urgency.

Raquibul Haque Miah, Legal Adviser of Bangladesh International Air Transport Association (IATA) Canada was present as the chief guest of the seminar along with the special guest Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman, proctor of BUBT.

Illustrating the remarkable contributions of legendary women in the civilization of modern world, Raquibul Haque urges the girls to come forward and demolish the negligence of the society.

“We must reform our morality and mentality at the same time,” said Raquibul urging the youths to take part in the defensive role of protesting against women harassment.

The seminar was chaired by the Dean of faculty of Law and Justice of BUBT Dr Syed Sarfaraj Hamid with the presence of other faculty Deans, members, and students.
