Police arrested the eradicator bus driver of Dishari Paribahan Muhammad Hanif Munna (32) for being guilty in the death of a university student Masud Rana (23).

A team led by senior assistant commissioner of police Daruss Salam Zone Jahangir Alam arrested Hanif from his house in Laksmipur district on Wednesday morning. After the arrest, Hanif was brought to Darussalam Police Station around 2:00 pm on Wednesday.

Jahangir Alam asserted that after the death of Masud Rana, their investigation was in full swing to detain the convict Hanif. As part of this, the operation was conducted in several areas on Tuesday. With the help of technology and other strategies, Hanif’s location was traced. Later, on Wednesday with the help of Sadar Police Station in Laxmipur district, the convict was detained from his house and brought to Dhaka. He will be sent to court after completion of the legal procedures after getting into the police station.

Masud Rana was a student of 30thintake of BBA program at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT). His house is located in the South Bisil area of ​​Mirpur. On Monday morning, near Eidgah ground crossing of the National Zoo Road a bus of Dishari Paribahan pushed a rickshaw on which Rana was riding to his campus. He was taken immediately to the National Institute of Rapid Transplantation and Rehabilitation (Pangu Hospital) where the doctors on duty declared him dead. Later on, police handed over the body to Masud’s family. Police seized the bus, but its driver Hanif escaped.

The students of BUBT immediately blocked the road ahead of the Sony Cinema Hall on that day. After the assurance of the senior officials of the police, they lifted the block. But since the bus driver was not arrested, they blocked the road in front of Sony Cinema Hall from 11 pm on Tuesday. After the administration’s assurance they lifted the blockade after 3 pm.
